Even When No One Listens

God called Jeremiah at a young age and told him up front that most people would reject him when he spoke God’s messages (Jeremiah 1:4-8; 1:17-19).

So Jeremiah spent his life warning his people of coming destruction while they opposed, imprisoned, mocked, and rejected him (Jeremiah 20:8-9).

When God's word proved true and the Babylonian army was gathering the Jews for captivity, the commander recognized Jeremiah as the one who had prophesied captivity. So he offered Jeremiah freedom and a life of ease in Babylon (Jeremiah 40:1-4).

Instead Jeremiah used his freedom to return as a prophet to the stubborn remnant left behind in the defeated city of Jerusalem (40:6). 

Jeremiah knew it wouldn't be easy (and it wasn't), but he understood this New Testament truth:   

“Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?” Luke 9:24-25  

Dear Christians, let’s choose God’s purposes even when we're opposed and even when we're offered an easy way out.
